SOUTH AUSTIN MUSEUM OF POPULAR CULTURE

Grand
Opening Poster, 2004
HISTORYInitially a project of the Phogg Foundation, the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture opened its doors to the public for the first time on March 15, 2004, as part of a citywide poster exhibition during South by Southwest. On May 31, it launched its first one-man show featuring work by the late artist/historian Jack "Jaxon" Jackson and has continued to produce some eight exhibits and five events per year with a part-time, all-volunteer staff.
The Museum was incorporated as an independent Texas nonprofit on February 25, 2005 and granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS on March 9, 2006. Now a membership organization governed by a Board of Directors, we are forming connections in the community and seeking ways to improve our programs while generating the revenue required to support them.
We invite members and friends to deepen their involvement in the Museum not only through cash and in-kind donations--which are most welcome--but also by sharing their time and talents as a volunteer. Currently volunteers include...
